Outer Space Facts

This post is a part of A-Z Challenge for bloggers, that takes place every year in the month of April. Bloggers take part in this challenge for self improvement and to overcome the “writer’s block”. Each one of us writes one article everyday, starting from the alphabet ‘A’, right up to ‘Z’. My theme for this year’s challenge is – mind-blowing facts and theories.

How can we not bring up space while talking about mind blowing phenomenon! So let’s get amazed by some outer space facts today…

  • Light takes nearly 8 minutes 17 seconds to travel from the Sun’s surface to Earth. However, it takes 1 million years to travel from Sun’s core to its surface. This means that the light we are getting at this very moment was actually originated a million years ago!AbsoluteFantasticBuzzard-max-1mb
  • A paper that can be folded into halves exactly 42 times, will reach the Moon! Yes! Folding a paper with the breadth of 0.0039 inch for 42 times will have a height of 4,39,804 KM. The distance between the Earth and the Moon is 3,84,473 KM. However, the world record for folding a paper maximum number of times is just 12! Go ahead and try it out yourself.giphy
  • It’s impossible to burp in space! When you burp on Earth, gravity keeps down the solids and liquids from the food you’ve eaten and only the gas escapes from your mouth. So, in the absence of gravity, the gas cannot be separated from the liquids and solids. Hence, it’s impossible to burp in space without also throwing up!burp-gif-4
  • A day on Venus is longer than a year! Yes, you read it right! It takes Venus about 243 Earth days to rotate on its axis just once. Whereas, it orbits the Sun within 225 days, making a Venus year 18 days shorter than a Venus day.tenor
  • Astronomers have found a giant water vapor cloud in space, over 10 billion light years away, which holds 140 trillion times the mass of water on Earth’s surface. So, technically, it’s floating water in space and the largest amount of water discovered too!giphy (1)
  • There are more stars in the universe than sand grains on Earth, with 70 sextillion stars that are visible from Earth through a telescope! (70 sextillion is: 70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000)03de9dba0d12eda763a77395145730f4_wow-gif-by-phizz-find-share-on-giphy_520-341
